There is a recent article posted in the New York Times about a new device for those suffering from heart problems. It is a new defibrillator that can send information about your heart directly to your doctor and any nearby hospital. There are hopes that this new device will help doctors as well as their patients catch a serious heart problem before it gets much worse or life-threatening. Provided, if something were to go wrong, an alarm would sound, allowing the doctor to take the necessary steps in order to return the patient back to their previous health. This device is projected to lower the amount of time a heart patient will have to stay in the hospital for any given visit and as a result, reduce hospital costs for these patients. Also, it allows doctors to check up on their patients more frequently without having the patient visit their doctor’s office. Dr. Saxon is quoted, “ ‘it’s like having an office visit every day and a complete physical every week.’ ” This device has the potential to be very effective for heart patients, and is a step in the right direction for the medical field.
