[p]A US News Health report by Sarah Baldauf warns that herbs and some other natural supplements may interact with blood thinners and drugs used to treat high blood pressure, two types of drugs commonly used to treat or prevent heart conditions. Arshad Jahangir, a cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic warns that supplements can lessen the effects of prescribed drugs, and do not have to "pass muster" with the FDA. These supplements have not been investigated in at-risk populations like the elderly or people with chronic diseases, so they may actually cause damage to these people.
