wow! that's interesting! So he hadn't had symptoms either? Why did he go for the animal valve; just out of curiosity? thanks!deb

My son just had valve replacement surgery for a bicuspid valve. He is twenty five. It was quite a surprise to all of us to find out that there was a problem. His heart murmur went undetected for all those years. He went to the doctor with a sore throat and that is when they found that he had a heart murmur and then sent him for testing. He is doing well at this time and is very physically active. He chose to go with an animal valve at this point, however feels that maybe he will go with a mechanical valve when he requires surgery again.

I am a 42-yr old female with a bcuspid aortic valve. Not having any trouble with it yet, but just wondering, for those who have, at what age did you start having problems, and how did they manifest themselves? Suggestions for keeping healthier NOW to make it better later on? thanks!
